Survey Update

Hi, Everyone! I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving!
20 surveys and meeting invitations have been returned to me as "undeliverable as addressed", since the home owners do not live on our wonderful street. (I had originally gathered the names and addresses by using the Haines 2006 Criss-Cross Directory.)
I just sent them back out last week, this time, using the city's tax rolls to get more accurate addresses. I was surprised to find that I was sending mail as far as Louisville, Kentucky! Has this person even stepped foot onto his property? Does he care who is living in his building, and how their actions might be bringing the quality of life down for those of us who actually live on this beautiful street?
I re-sent many pieces of mail to Penfield, Pittsford, Brighton, Holley, Gates, Greece, Kendall, and Chili. I also noted that other properties were owned by people in Irondequoit, and in Elmhurst, Illinois! (I haven't received those original pieces of mail back yet, but I have a feeling that I will.)
I have only received one completed survey since my original mailing of early October. I am very disappointed in this response rate, and wonder what my next step should be, in order to entice more neighbor involvement in our beautification and renewal activities.
Please, let me know what I need to do, as an artist/mommy, that can bring everyone together to make our street better, and eventually, turn our whole neighborhood around!
I welcome positive comments, and even negative ones, as I really don't know what I am doing wrong! I am a novice, and can benefit from learning from other's experiences.
I envision the type of street where new neighbors are welcomed to the neighborhood with gift baskets and handshakes, and people help others whenever they can. If this is the type of street you believe Cameron Street can be, please help me to realize this vision!
I look forward to hearing from you all!!!!
Peace, Pam

a note from Pam :)

Hi! This is Pam, the organizer of the Cameron Street Block Club! I have been a resident of Cameron Street for 18 years.

I look forward to helping make Cameron Street the "Harvard Street" of Rochester's westside! What I mean by this is that, like Harvard St, we are located off of a very busy avenue (Lyell Avenue), yet we too can have the quiet beauty like the residents on Harvard Street enjoy!

Each time I attend events or enjoy the nightlife on Park Avenue, I am so surprised how quite and serene the side streets are! We can have that too! Those side streets are home to many local college students and other renters, so I know that home ownership is not the only variable to living in a nice area! We can have the same high quality of life, and we should expect the same as well!

Be a part of the solution! Let's all band together and force the "bad seeds" off of our street and out of our neighborhood!

The blight must go! The good people of Cameron Street are here to stay! Let's raise our expectations and our quality of life, as well as our property values!

If you have any comments, or suggestions, please feel free to drop me a line!!  NiceNRG@aol.com

I look forward to receiving your imput and help! I can't do it alone, and many hands make light work!

Peace be with you! ~ Pam

WELCOME TO CAMERON STREET!

Hi! I am a mother, an artist, and a wife. I also want to help create a safe and beautiful street on which to live. We deserve better than what we have now!

As a group, we must get the absentee landlords involved in the renaissance of our street! There must be better tenant screening processes in place so that better people will live on our street. The undesirables must be made to leave.

Garbage must not be an acceptable sight on our curbs.  Drug dealing cannot be tolerated. Prostitution does not belong on our street! Sex offenders are living in close proximity to us, and we must protect our families!

Our children walk to school and play here! We must be sure that they are properly supervised at all times! We have an elementary school and a day care center on our street, as well as a Kids' Cafe that serves meals to children at the Cameron Community Ministries. These all deserve our support and are wonderful assets to our community!

We must improve our own quality of life! This group was formed to start the process. Please contact me at NiceNRG@aol.com with ideas and suggestions on how to make positive changes here on Cameron Street! I hope to hear from you soon!

Peace! ~ Pam
